When the Air Jordan 3 were released in 1988 they came in with a bang. The year before the release the Jordan 2's made a monster smash and this new series would have big shoes to fill.

The Air Jordan 3 was just the 3rd of the 14 that Hatfield designed. The Air Jordan 3 also was more branded towards Jordan s name since the Micheal Jordan was starting to become an active part of the design of his shoes.

The Nike Air Jordan 3 laid the ground work for so many different perspectives of the Jordan shoes. First example, the Air Jordan 3 featured the Jumpman on the tongue of the shoe the new logo of the Air Jordan's and not the wings lifting the ball. This new logo came mostly from him winning the slam dunk contest. From their on out the new Jordan logo would appear on every Jordan shoes sold after that moment. The Air Jordan 3 was also the first shoe ever to feature a visible air pocket on the shoe. Last but certainly not least, the Air Jordan 3 featured elephant print on the upper part of the tongue of the shoe. Jordan and the designers in turn only used this material on 1 other model, it set a high standard for fashion in basketball shoes.
